Kicking, Punting & Long Snapping Training in St. Augustine

St. Johns County football has grown fast, and specialist coaching has not kept up with it. The county built new schools faster than it built coaching staffs, so the kicker ends up learning from whoever on the roster kicked last year.

4th Down University is a specialist-only program. Kickers, punters and long snappers are not a side offering here — they are the only thing we do, and have been for 22 years.

What a session actually looks like

Every rep is measured on TrackMan and reviewed on film the same day. Not “looked good, run it again” — ball speed, launch angle, spin, apex and height off the line of scrimmage, on every ball.

That data feeds Kickometry, the method behind the program: find the athlete’s repeatable operation, then build training around holding it under pressure. There is no one right way to kick. There is the right way for that athlete’s body, made repeatable. More on how we use TrackMan.

How St. Johns County athletes train with us

Most St. Johns County training is on-campus and by appointment. We come to your high school — arranged with your athletic director and head coach — or to a field near you.

On-campus sessions are $250 and cover St. Augustine, St. Johns, Ponte Vedra, Nocatee and the surrounding programs. Athletes who would rather come to us train at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex, about an hour south on A1A or I-95. Virtual sessions work from anywhere.

How an on-campus session gets set up

  1. Tell us where you are. Your school, your position, and what you are trying to fix.
  2. You and your coach square it with the school. Your head coach signs off and your athletic director grants field access — that permission has to come from inside the program, which is why it runs through you and your coach rather than through us.
  3. We come to you. $250, on your own field, TrackMan on every rep and film reviewed the same day.

If your school will not host, we use a local park near you instead, or you come to Ormond Beach.

St. Johns County athletes who trained here

St. Johns County families are one of the largest groups in the program, and specialists from this area have gone on to play at Florida, Frostburg State and St. Thomas University, among others.

Across the whole program, 4DU athletes have earned more than 150 college scholarships and dozens of All-America honors. Cairo Santos, Tommy Townsend and Austin Seibert came through the program and went on to the NFL. Santos won the Lou Groza Award at Tulane in 2012; Ethan Gettman won the Fred Mitchell Award at Bryant in 2022. NFL specialists who have trained or coached in Daytona include Chris Boswell, Wil Lutz, Greg Joseph and Brad Robbins. See where every 4DU specialist is playing.
