Kicking, Punting & Long Snapping Training in Fort Lauderdale
South Florida produces as many college specialists as anywhere in the country, and most of them are self-taught. Down here the talent gets found early and the specialists get found last, usually by a camp that charges them to kick in front of a stopwatch.
4th Down University is a specialist-only program. Kickers, punters and long snappers are not a side offering here — they are the only thing we do, and have been for 22 years.
What a session actually looks like
Every rep is measured on TrackMan and reviewed on film the same day. Not “looked good, run it again” — ball speed, launch angle, spin, apex and height off the line of scrimmage, on every ball.
That data feeds Kickometry, the method behind the program: find the athlete’s repeatable operation, then build training around holding it under pressure. There is no one right way to kick. There is the right way for that athlete’s body, made repeatable. More on how we use TrackMan.
How South Florida athletes train with us
4DU comes to South Florida periodically rather than on a standing schedule. When we are down, sessions run at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, and those dates are posted on the calendar once they are set.
Between trips, South Florida specialists work with us two ways: virtual sessions — send your film, break it down live with Coach Lundy, keep the recording — and trips up to our home field at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex. Specialists from this area have gone on to play at Florida, South Florida, Alabama A&M, Bryant, Carnegie Mellon and St. Thomas University, among others.
Across the whole program, 4DU athletes have earned more than 150 college scholarships and dozens of All-America honors. Cairo Santos, Tommy Townsend and Austin Seibert came through the program and went on to the NFL. Santos won the Lou Groza Award at Tulane in 2012; Ethan Gettman won the Fred Mitchell Award at Bryant in 2022.
